Majors: Economics, Sociology
Minors: Mathematics, Art History and Criticism, English, and Psychology

Clarice Santos is a first-generation Filipino student who got involved right away with the Define American Club and the Combs Honors Scholars Program. She is also a McNair Scholar, a member of Lambda Theta Nu, Nebraska College Preparatory Academy, Psi Chi, Alpha Kappa Delta, and the University Honors Program.

She chose Nebraska because of the research opportunities. Her first hands-on experience was through the Undergraduate Sociology Teaching and Research Students (USTARS) program through the Department of Sociology. She was a research assistant for one of the graduate students. She has also been working on an Undergraduate Creative Activity and Research Experience (UCARE) project with mentor Patrick Habecker, focusing on a data set about rural drug use in Puerto Rico.

Additionally, Clarice is a research assistant at the Methodology and Evaluation Research Center and Trey Andrews' Latino Mental Health and Treatment Outcomes Lab.

"What I love about psychology is the understanding that it provides me about the relationship between one's mind and body," she said. "But more importantly, it bridges the gap between my assumptions and other's behaviors. It taught me how to be more caring and patient with others because it made me realize that one's action is a reaction to something that may be beyond face value."

Her favorite psychology class was PSYC 273 (Brain and Behavior). Clarice found the class very interesting and has retained a lot of information.

Fun fact: she loves putting on subtle scents so that only those closest to her will notice.
