Kristen Olson has been appointed to a new National Research Council Panel for Reengineering the Census Annual Economic Surveys.

The panel "will review the design, operations, and products of the U.S. Census Bureau's suite of annual economic surveys of retail trade, manufactures, wholesale trade, services, and other economic activities." They will recommend short-term and longer term agendas for systemic change that can improve the relevance and accuracy of the data, reduce burden on respondent businesses, and streamline and standardize Census Bureau processes and methods across surveys."

The council is part of the National Academies.

Olson is an associate professor of sociology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her research focuses on survey methodology, nonresponse error, measurement error, and interviewer effects.
