Kelsy Burke was named one of 16 Public Fellows of the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), a nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization, as part of its Religion and Renewing Democracy Initiative. Fellows work alongside PRRI researchers and staff to generate public scholarship on issues at the intersection of religion, culture, and politics.

The Public Fellows will be organized into peer groups of four whose work will be aligned with PRRI's major research areas. Burke, an associate professor in the Department of Sociology, will serve within the LGBTQ Rights peer group.

Her research has examined a wide range of topics, including religious freedom laws and LGBTQ rights, evangelical women's ministries, public debates over pornography, and the Christian sex-advice industry. The overarching question driving her research is: How do religion and sexuality interact and intersect as a politicized set of practices, ideologies, and identities?

Burke's research has been supported by multiple grants and fellowships, including from the National Science Foundation, and has been published by top academic journals and popular outlets.
