A team led by Kristen Olson and Jolene Smyth in the Department of Sociology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln hosted an NSF-funded international workshop on February 26-28, 2019, focused on the study of interviewers as a source of survey error and the implications of this work for survey practice. Additional funding for the workshop came from the Charles Cannell Fund for Survey Methodology, the Rensis Likert Fund in Research in Survey Methodology, the UNL College of Arts and Sciences, and the UNL Office of Research and Economic Development.
The workshop provided a forum for academic, government, and industry researchers and practitioners to discuss methods, practical insights, and research findings on interviewers, as well as set an agenda for future studies of interviewers. Papers and posters from this three-day workshop are available online. The workshop included about 60 participants from the US and Europe, including academic and government researchers, project directors of large-scale interviewer-administered surveys, early career researchers, and students.
