Emily Kazyak and the cover of a new book

Emily Kazyak, associate professor of sociology and women’s and gender studies, is the editor of the forthcoming book “Geographies of Sexualities,” available on March 31 from Routledge.

Focusing on locations as diverse as the rural southern United States, Brazil, Istanbul and South Korea, the book advances understandings of how lesbian, bisexual and queer women navigate identity, community and politics. It brings together international scholars whose work addresses how meanings about sexuality and place intertwine.

Kazyak studies the cultural and legal meanings of sexuality, how these meanings change (particularly with regard to increasing recognition of LGBTQ identities and families), and how Americans respond to such changes. She is the coordinator and advisor for the minor in LGBTQ Studies/Sexuality.
