About me / Bio
I am Michael Okyere, a dedicated scholar currently in my second year of the Sociology program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana, where I built a robust foundation in Sociological Theories, Rural Sociology, and Research Methods. Additionally, I pursued a minor in Political Science, which has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of comparative politics and social relations.
At UNL, I am excited about the cutting-edge research opportunities and the collaborative academic environment. The sociology department’s commitment to an open-door policy fosters a culture of learning and mentorship, allowing for meaningful engagement with faculty.
My research interests lie in migration and demography, health and substance abuse, and the practical applications of sociological research methods to address social inequalities and stratifications. I aspire to contribute to social research that effectively addresses real-world challenges and to collaborate with interdisciplinary agencies to create impactful solutions.
Outside of my academic endeavors, I enjoy playing basketball, listening to music, and cooking, which provide a balanced approach to my life and studies. I look forward to making a significant contribution to the field and to the broader community during my time at UNL.
