All sociology majors are eligible for Sociology 395 (Internship Experience). Students may earn up to four hours credit in sociology through an internship with a public or private agency in Nebraska. These internships provide on-the-job experiences in human services, policy, research and management and help to relate this work to the academic program. An internship also helps to build a resume for future employment.
An internship is a great way to make the most of your undergraduate education. An internship can help you to connect what you learn in class to real world applications, and can increase the relevance of your courses. Internships also provide experience that employers look for in job applicants. Examples of UNL Sociology student internships include the U.S. Attorney’s Office (District of Nebraska), the Bureau of Sociological Research, Cedar Youth Services, Nebraska Appleseed, the Department of Health and Human Services, Friendship Home, and the Women’s Foundation of Lincoln and Lancaster County.
Focus Areas
To help you find an internship we have organized possible internship locations around the department's main focus areas.
You are not restricted to choosing internships from the list—it is only meant to help you think about possibilities. Descriptions of the internships come from the websites of the organizations.
