Sociology Graduate Students

Renita Tyrance

My research and teaching interests have changed a bit over the years. Currently my research interests include family/domestic violence and the impact it has on the educational success/failure of children who have witnessed or been victims of it. Additionally, I am interested in whether or not college aged women who are survivors of sexual abuse/violence have challenges matriculating when they get to college because of symptoms related to undiagnosed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I would like to study whether or not women’s studies, sociology and some humanities courses become triggers when discussing and naming former victimizations.

I taught Introduction to Sociology 101 this past semester and enjoyed the experience very much. I believe that after establishing a baseline, I could be very successful in this capacity as an instructor. After experiences teaching in upper level classes: Nationality and Race Relations and the Sociology of Sports, I believe that I appreciate teaching college freshman and students in the more formative stages of their higher education experiences best.
