My name is HarmoniJoie Noel and I earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and psychology from Concordia College-Moorhead, MN. I completed a master’s degree in sociology with a specialization in women’s and gender studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I plan on graduating with my doctorate in sociology and a minor in survey research and methodology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the spring of 2010. My research interests broadly center on sociological issues relating to families, gender, and research methods. In particular, I study intimate partner violence, father-child relationships, adolescent health, measurement error in surveys, and martial arts/self-defense. Currently, I am working on my dissertation entitled, “He said, She said: (Dis)agreement about the Occurrence of Physical and Sexual Violence among Heterosexual Couples.” I am taking a methodological focus to see how different definitions of partner violence and different patterns of agreement among couples change our understanding of the prevalence and predictors of partner violence using Add Health data on 1,500 couples. In the past I have taught Introduction to Sociology recitations, Introduction to Sociology online, and the Marriage and Family summer reading course. Outside of work I enjoy reading, taking my dog to the dog park, practicing Hapkido, and volunteering on the Voices of Hope crisis line. M.A.: University of Nebraska-Lincoln Email: hnoel3@gmail.edu |
