Sociology Graduate Students

Lesa Johnson

I received my Bachelor of Science in Sociology, cum laude, in 2006 from Charleston Southern University (South Carolina), with minors in Psychology and English. My research interests include Race and Ethnicity, Women and Work, Stratification, and Mental Health Disparities. I expect to obtain the Master of Arts degree by May 2010. My tentative thesis topic is Psychological Resources, Adjustment and Economic Mobility of Black Women in the U.S. The study will utilize quantitative analysis of the National Survey of American Life data set to examine social capital, social support, and mental health care access for women in poverty. I am currently on an Ogle Fellowship, working with Dr. Bridget Goosby on her project entitled Racial Ethnic Differences in Family Stress and Adolescent Mental and Physical Health.

In my free time I enjoy writing fiction and poetry, reading, and gazing at the beautiful Nebraska snow!
