I am a local attorney who specializes in civil rights law, and currently serves as the Director of the Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission. I graduated from the University of San Francisco with a BA in English, and then ran a bar in Alaska for a year before enrolling at the UNL College of Law. After practicing in the areas of juvenile justice for about ten years, I consulted for a state agency on minority justice issues. I then decided to return to school and pursue a PhD in Sociology. I hope to someday teach at a private liberal arts college. I have four children who seem to grow and change every time I glance up from a book, article or legal case I am reading. One of the gifts I hope I have given them is a love of life-long learning, and insatiable curiosity. Both of these have served me well and keep me excited to wake up each day. I am particularly interested in inequality in society, the changing nature of prejudice and how implicit bias impacts everything we do. Someday when I have free time, I will have an organic garden, ski or kayak every weekend possible and learn Spanish. J.D.: University of Nebraska-Lincoln Email: ahobbs@neb.rr.com |
