Sociology Graduate Students

Kelley Hartshorn

My name is Kelley Sittner Hartshorn.  I earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from UNL in 2000, and a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2007.  My thesis was titled “The Effects of Religion, Political Orientation, and Fear of Crime on Nebraskans’ Attitudes about Punishment and Rehabilitation” and focused on whether individuals supported punishment or rehabilitation for criminals.  I plan on graduating with my doctorate in sociology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the spring of 2010.

My primary research interests in Sociology are crime and deviance, with a particular focus on serious and violent crime, and on gender differences in crime and delinquency.  I continue to work on a variety of projects related to those topics, and am especially excited about the prospect of studying the risk of arrest in American Indian adolescents for my dissertation.
